Background
Itare Dam is one of the flagship projects that have been identified by the Government of Kenya (GoK) under the jurisdiction of RVWSB that needs to be developed as a matter of priority. Through a Feasibility Study done in 1998, the proposed Itare dam site was identified as the most viable long term source of water to address water shortages in Nakuru Municipality, Molo and Rongai areas.
Itare dam site and water treatment plant (WTP) are located in Kiptororo & Tinet locations of Kuresoi North and Kuresoi South Sub Counties of Nakuru County. The pipeline will have provisions of water supply off-takes and therefore benefit the people around the towns of Chepsir, Chepseon, Kedowa, Molo, Elburgon, Salgaa and Njoro.
